Mary Elizabeth (Latta) Fishel, formerly from Mulvane, KS passed away on March 24, 2020 after an extended period of health issues. She fought valiantly until the end.  Mary was born January 31, 1935 in rural Harper County, Kansas to Clarence and Geneva Latta. She attended 2 one room schoolhouses with her three older brothers until high school, when they transferred to the Harper schools. She graduated from Harper High School in 1954.  On December 5, 1953, she married Randall Fishel at the Harper United Methodist Church. To this union three children were born. She worked in the Harper schools until the family moved to Derby, and then Mulvane, KS. She worked at Wesley Hospital until her retirement in 2002. In her retirement, she and Randall enjoyed camping, especially their summers in the mountains, and their volunteer work at Webster Conference Center in Salina, KS. In 2013, Mary and Randall moved to Shawnee, KS, to be closer to their family.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and two brothers. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Randall of the home, one brother, Norman, of Wichita, KS, her children, Doug (Patti) of Prairie Village, KS, Dean (Leona) of Topeka, KS, and Ruth of Colorado Springs, CO, 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to many. She will be missed.

Due to current restrictions, interment at the Ft Leavenworth Military Cemetery will be immediate family only. A memorial service in Mary’s honor will be announced at a later date at the Lenexa Baptist Church in Lenexa, KS.  The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church, Mulvane, KS Building Fund or to the Kansas City Hospice House.
