Dr. William J. Walls, MD, MBA passed away March 23, 2020.  He was born July 8, 1939 in Youngstown, Ohio as the only child of James H. and Dorothy B. Walls. Dr. Walls grew up in Youngstown and graduated from The Rayen High School in 1957. He then attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire graduating in 1961. He majored in English Literature but also was Pre-med. From 1961 to 1962 he attended graduate school at The Ohio State University completing his pre-medical studies. He then attended St. Louis University School of Medicine graduating with his MD degree in 1966. He then began a Strait Surgical internship and residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. After two years of the surgical program he entered the U.S. Navy. He served as Medical Officer aboard the USS Valley Forge, an Amphibious Assault Ship carrying a Battalion of Marines and a Marine helicopter squadron. He deployed to Vietnam in 1969. While there he also worked temporary active duty at the US Naval Support Hospital in Danang, Republic of Vietnam. After completing military service, he returned to The University of Michigan Medical Center for three years of residency in Diagnostic Radiology. On completing his residency, he became an Instructor and then Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center.  While there he did research in the field of diagnostic ultrasound publishing a number of papers on the subject. In July of 1976 he entered private practice in diagnostic radiology in Topeka, Kansas with Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, a large group of radiologists. While there he served as President of the Medical Staff at Stormont Vail Regional Medical Center as well as Chairman of Radiology and President of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. He also completed a two-year program at The University of South Florida to obtain a Master's in Business Administration in 1993 while practicing full time.  In 2000 he retired from practice and accepted a position as a Medical Director at Medsolutions, a radiology management company in Nashville, Tennessee. He worked there until 2005 when he retired.  He returned to Kansas City and has spent the rest of his retirement in Overland Park. He has been active in his community and his church. He is survived by his wife, Mary Madeline Walls originally of Barrie, Ontario, Canada. He is also survived by his two sons David B. Walls of Dallas, Texas and Michael J. Walls, of Leawood, Kansas as well as four grandchildren.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and Parkinson Foundation.  A private family Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church followed by entombment Resurrection Cemetery, Holy Family Mausoleum.
