Oct 23, 1920---Dec 25, 2019

Robert (Bob) John Nord

Born October 23, 1920 in Calumet, OK. Passed Away December 25. 2019. Bob and his wife Dorothy (Bright) were married for 78 years before Dorothy passed away in April of 2017.

As a young man, Bob learned to be a butcher in a grocery store in Calumet, OK. He had various other jobs as well, but the vocation he retired from was the US post office in Prairie Village, KS. He was a mail carrier, and carried the same route for many years, and was beloved by the patrons he delivered mail to. Many treated him like he was part of their family.

Bob was proud to serve our country during World War II as a Marine. Most of his service time was spent on various islands in the Pacific Ocean.  In September of 2016, he was blessed to go on the Honor Flight for veterans to  Washington, D.C. with his dear friend and veteran, Tom D'Andrea.

After Bob & Dorothy retired in the late 1970's, they bought a home in Shell Knob, MO where they enjoyed the ozarks for 21 years. During that time they became campground hosts, a volunteer position for the US Forest service near Gunnison, CO where they stayed all summer. After being campground hosts for several years in Colorado, they bought a motor home. They enjoyed traveling in their motor home all over the United States, spending a lot of summers in Montana, and spending a lot of winters in Arizona. They made many friends all along the way in their travels.  They were blessed to be able to fully enjoy their retirement just the way they wanted to.

Bob was also known for his expert fly fishing skills. He loved fishing the streams of Colorado and Montana for trout.

Bob and Dorothy would rather be remembered for their relationship with the Lord. Bob was always talking to people about God and telling them what the Lord had done for him. During their working years, Bob and Dorothy had been very active in their church, and had served in many different areas.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his parents, Charles E. and Clara (Simon) Nord, his brothers Joe Nord and Bill Nord.

Bob is survived by 3 daughters Jeanette Larson of Shawnee, KS, Roberta (Dr. Don) Ogburn of Nevada, MO and Debbie (Dan) Shelby of Overland Park, KS. 6 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 8 a.m. with Funeral Seivices at 9 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monmvia, Lenexa, KS.

Bob will be buried in Leavenworth National Cemetery with Dorothy at 11 a.m.  Thursday.
