Mar 24, 1934---Nov 28, 2019

W. Barton Brown (Bart) was born March 24, 1934 to Marjorie (Carothers) and Forest Brown in Atwood, Kansas.  He passed away on Thanksgiving with his family by his side on November 28, 2019.  His mother died in a car crash when he was 3 years old, so he was raised by his father Forest and stepmother Etna.  Bart attended college at the University of Nebraska and the University of Colorado.  He was a veteran who served his country in Korea.  He was a graduate from the University of Kansas Law School and became a member of the Deacy and Deacy Law Firm in Kansas City, MO.  He then went to Wallace and Saunders Law Firm in Overland Park, KS which later became Wallace, Saunders, Austin, Brown, and Enochs.  Bart is survived by his wife Jeanie, eldest son Michael and his fiancé Karan, younger son Daniel and his wife Michelle, and grandchildren, Logan, Skylar, Mallory, Clara, and Hannah, married to Jacob Schaeffer.  Bart and his wife Jeanie have been married since 1964.

Bart's first love was his family.  He encouraged Mike and Dan to try all the sports they had an interest in except football.  He rarely missed a baseball game, soccer match, swim meet, golf challenge or tennis match.  What a joy Grandchildren were to him.  He was an avid supporter and went to their soccer games and ONW varsity tennis matches.  He could be counted on to take them to see the latest animated movie.  Grandad Brown had a long running history of getting the Old Maid when playing cards with Grammie and his Granddaughters.  He was tricked into becoming the 'Old Maid' by their conniving to send it his way time and time again.  He loved frustrating Jeanie by hitting her tennis moon balls until she either started laughing or shouting at him to 'cut it out.'  Bart’s stepmother sent him to resident camps every summer for the whole summer at times.  He had many funny camp stories to share with the family.

Another one of Bart’s great loves was fishing.  He took Jeanie fishing in Canada on their honeymoon.  They stayed in cabins powered by generators and Jeanie only fished one day, but “that was enough”.  She spent most of her time reading and plotting their 2nd honeymoon trip to Mexico or a sunny island.  He took many fishing trips, including trips to Brazil for peacock bass, Alaska for halibut, Lake Texoma and other lakes for striped bass, deep sea fishing in Mexico and several other places.  However, he spent most of his time fishing at Lake Quivira for largemouth bass.  When he was not able to fish any more, he focused on fishing lure collecting.  He specialized in collecting old Bomber lures, and acquired a large collection of HD Bomber lures.  He grudgingly learned how to use the computer and eBay to find and grow his collection.  He will be remembered with smiles and joy as a great husband, father, and grandad.  Celebration of Life will be held at Lake Quivira Clubhouse from 1-3pm, Sunday Dec. 8th.  In lieu of flowers consider donating to Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

Jeanie, I am sorry to hear of Bart's passing. He was a great guy. He always treated me well when I work with him at Wallace, Saunders. He was an exceptional lawyer and, I'm sure, a good father and husband. It was nice seeing him again when he stuck his toe in the waters of bridge. He always seemed friendly and upbeat. I will miss seeing him. Your friend. - Larry

Law Partner/friend ,Olathe ,Kansas

My heart breaks losing my friend of over 50 years and mentor in our law practice. Bart knew how to control life, the court room and issues. I cherish every moment I spent with him on a social basis, business setting and just “visiting”. There will never be another like him. My most sincere condolences to the family on the loss of a jewel. There will be no one to replace this fine gentleman and friend. Rick Merker
