Moi Tran, a long-time resident of the DMV area (D.C., Maryland, Virginia), as well as Wichita, KS, died Sunday, the 24th of November in her home in Gardner, KS. She was surrounded by her beloved family.
Born in 1947 in Can Tho, Vietnam, Moi had grit and strength that surpassed her physical limitations. You see, at age 9, Moi survived a Polio breakout in her village that nearly wiped out the whole village. She was only one of a handful of survivors. She lived an active, productive, and fulfilled life despite her paraplegia--up until sequelae from Polio overtook her body.
Even as a paraplegic, Moi was able to care for herself and her family until her physical body would not allow her to anymore. She helped close neighbors and friends by watching their children, which allowed the parents a much needed break. While she lived with her sister Linh Tran in the DMV area, she practically raised her nephew Minh Hoang Ho from the day he was born. Minh was like a son to Moi.
Moi was an excellent cook and could whip up any Vietnamese dish without looking at a single recipe. She also loved to listen to music, and watch the videos made for those Vietnamese songs, especially the oldies.
Moi never married and did not have children, but she was constantly surrounded by her loving parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews. She is survived by her sisters Phan Tran of Wichita, KS, Huong Tran of Silver Spring, MD, and Linh Tran of Beltsville, MD, by her brother Cai Tran of Westminister, CA, by her many nieces and nephews in the DMV area, Boston, MA, Kansas City, KS, Boca Raton, Fl, Altadena, CA, and specifically Minh Quang Ho of Beltsville, MD, who was like a son to Moi, and many great nieces and great nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on January 12th, 2020 at Chùa Quan Âm Phổ Chiếu Ni Viện, 7605 Good Luck Rd, New Carrollton, MD 20784
