Bob taught me how to drive when I attended Wyandotte and I remember those days with great joy. He was probably glad when he stepped out of the driver's ed car. He was more than a teacher to me but a great friend. My wife Marty remembers Bob fondly; through her relationship with him in Kiwanis, and his volunteerism at the former Children's Museum of Kansas City. He was a leader and friend to all, and we will miss him.

I HAD THE PLEASURE OF KNOWING BOB THROUGH OUR MANY YEARS TOGETHER IN KIWANIS. BOB WAS GREAT TO BE AROUND. ALWAYS POSITIVE AND UP BEAT. I FELT BOB COULD HAVE GONE ON TO DO MANY THINGS, BUT HIS PASSION TO SERVE THE YOUTH OF OUR COMMUNITY, THROUGH HIS TEACHING WAS WHAT MADE HIM HAPPY. GOD BLESS BOB AND HIS FAMILY. STEVE SHONDELL

Daughter in Law ,Houston ,Texas

Bob was an amazing person and Father in Law. We have many fond memories of visiting he and Janet in Kansas and of them taking care of our son, Andrew, during summer vacations while we were living and working overseas. Bob will be sorely missed by all three of us but we take comfort in the fact that he is now pain free and united with Janet his spouse of almost 66 years.

I couldn’t have asked for a better father-in-law. I met Bob when I was only 23 and he was always so kind and loving to me. When I lost my father at 27, Bob was there and then took on the role of being a true father and dad to me. I loved to make him laugh and shake his head at me. He was very much loved and will be greatly missed.

We are truly sadden by the loss of a wonderful man. I have been lucky enough to know Bob my entire life, He was a admiral man and would always seem to have a smile on his face. I have lots of fond memories of shared family holidays I can still recall the smell of his pipe from my childhood and I am grateful to have been apart of his life. We are sharing in your sadness as you remember Bob and Sending all our love.

Mr. Thompkins was my counselor at Wyandotte High School. He instilled in me the confidence I needed to become an educator. He was always there to support me and encourage me during my high school years. I too, like Mr. Thompkins, was an educator in the KCK public schools for 38 years, spending 17 of those years at Wyandotte High School as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. He definitely played an important part in my career selection and in my life.
