     Shirley Jean John, 85, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2019.  A visitation will be from 1-2:00 PM with Funeral Services at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 16, at Nall Avenue Baptist Church, 6701 Nall Avenue Prairie Village, KS 66208.  Burial at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens.  Donations may be made to the church in Shirley's name.

     Shirley was born February 11, 1934, in Holden, MO. She was raised in Overland Park, KS by her parents Frank and Cecil DeMasters and attended Shawnee Mission High School. During her life she traveled to many foreign countries.   Her driving force was her love of God and her passion for helping others.  Shirley was a lifetime member of Nall Avenue Baptist Church, volunteering in the music ministries, and Children’s Sunday School. She loved playing Tennis, Bridge, crossword puzzles, and game shows.  Her family was always the center of her life.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Betty DeBarry, Jerry Peck, Carol Johnson, and Donna Tyler.  She is survived by George John, 3 children: Mitch (Anne) Kniffin, Denver, CO, Leslie (Craig) Hartman, Altamont, KS, Cyd (Gert) Kumi, Anderson, IL,  6 grandchildren: Errika, Alicia, Caleb, Josh, Luke, Mia, 9 great grandchildren: Liam, Jackson, Simone, Claire, Wesley, Dean, Janie, Elliott, Evie and many extended family and friends.

Paul and I send our love and prayers to Shirley’s family at the loss of their loved one. She was such an inspiration with a beautiful smile. She and I shared an office at Nall Avenue Baptist Church for a while under the leadership of Pastor Owen Dahlor, sang alto together in the church choir and taught one group of young children under the leadership of Music Minister Ed Otto. Lots of laughs and love shared there. We are very sorry that we are unable to attend her home going service. Nelda Hoback
