Christine Marie De Joia, 68, formerly of Fairway, KS passed away Monday, September 30 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Overland Park.

Christine was born on December 25, 1950, in Meadville, PA was one of five children born to Carmen Eric DeJoia and Nellie Ione DeJoia.

Christine is survived by her four siblings, David (Leanne) De Joia, Courtland, KS; Emily (Tom) Sutton, Overland Park, KS; Laura (Dom) Fiorello, Cherry Hill, NJ; Martha (John) Humphreys, Richmond Hills, GA; nine nieces and nephews, Lisa (Eric) Ross; Aaron (Crista) De Joia; Kate (Ryan) Steeves; James (Erin) Sutton; Rachel (Cameron) Rice; Liz (David) McElvain; J.T. Humphreys; Alex Humphreys; Bella Humphreys, 16 great nieces and nephews and aunt, Nancy Schmatzel and as well as many cousins.

Christine was preceded in death by her parents Carmen and Ione, uncles: Listle C., Roy W., Orlin J., and Harold W. Hicken, Alex De Joia, Joe De Joia, Bragg Brown Otto Helmich, John Cuba; aunts: Erma Brown and Evelyn Hicken, Rosanna and Dena Hicken, Trellas Helmich, Irene De Joia, Ruby Hicken, Mildred, Hicken, Lillian Hicken, Ethel Vescuso, Bobbie De Joia and several nephews and nieces.

Christine was the family’s earth angel, a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt and great aunt.  She was her happiest when surrounded by her immediate and extended family.  She cherished supporting her Mother as she prepared and cooked for family gatherings and was fastidious about maintaining an immaculate kitchen. 

Christine was an enthusiastic assistant and contributor to our Mother’s completion of the daily crossword puzzle.  She maintained a meticulous calendar for all upcoming family birthdays and events and especially loved babies and caring for her nieces and nephews.

Christine was a loyal and compassionate daughter, companion, and caregiver to our Mother and shared her abundant love with everyone she touched.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City, Alzheimer Association or a charity of your choice.

Visitation and services will be held from starting at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 3rd at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, Ks.  Interment will be St. Mary's Cemetery, Higginsville, Mo.
