Donald Amos Parry, 91 passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2019 surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. 

Don was born September 24,1928 in Granville, New York to Amos Griffin and Luella Fanny Parry.  He was the younger brother of Stanton Parry and Barbara Parry Leonard. Don grew up in Granville, NY and spent many happy summers living and working on his grandparents’ farm in nearby Orwell, Vermont. 

Don attended Granville Hight School, where he participated on the football and baseball teams, graduating in 1945.  After graduation, Don joined the Army Air Corps (which became the Air Force) where he participated in sports and became a radio mechanic until his discharge in 1949. 

After serving in the Army, Don moved to Fort Collins, CO to attend Colorado A & M, now Colorado State University, where he majored in Civil Engineering.  After three years of college Don went to work in the oil exploration business. While working in Kansas, he met the love of his life, Geraldine “Geri” Metcalf in Arkansas City, Kansas. 

Don and Geri married shortly after meeting and began their adventure together traveling the country and living in Colorado, Montana, Washington and eventually settling in Great Bend, Kansas with their three daughters. While in Great Bend, Don established and operated Exploration Inc.  He was a member of the American Legion. Upon retiring, Don and Geri moved to Arkansas City, Kansas where Don enjoyed sharing the country life with his family. Later, Don and Geri moved to the Kansas City area to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Don loved spending time with his family and enjoyed many vacations to his beloved Vermont.  

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Stanton and his sister Barbara Leonard.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Geri Parry, his daughters Kristi Parry (Jon Rosell) Becky Parry Goss (Mike Goss) and Jennifer Oborny (Louis Oborny) and his grandchildren, Emma Goss Portnoy (David Portnoy),  Haley Oborny, Griffin Page, Lucy Goss, Cooper Page (Roni Page) and Lucas Oborny, his great granddaughter, Annabel Portnoy, and his nieces and nephews.  

Don was a man of laughter, fun, music, hard work and a wonderful sense of humor.  He was devoted to his wife of 65 years and his children, their spouses and his grandchildren whom he loved deeply.  His family lovingly referred to him as "Papa". He was loved and respected by many. Don was known for saying "a good man is hard to find."  Papa Don was a good man! He will be missed. 

A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday October 12th at 12p.m. at the Hope Cemetery in Arkansas City, Kansas.
