Regina "Jean" Henrietta Luchi (nee Marsico), Age: 92
Aug 19, 1927---Sep 26, 2019

Regina "Jean" Henrietta Luchi (née Marsico), was born on August 19, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA, to Agnes and Gaten Marsico. She was educated at St. Rita’s Catholic Elementary School, The John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School and the University of Pennsylvania. She was married to Robert J. Luchi, M.D. for 65 years. She is survived by her children Jean Marie Luchi, Michael John Luchi (Janet Forge), Lauren Luchi Trujillo (Maximiliano), and Fr. Jean Baptiste Ganza, S.J, her adopted son from Rwanda. She was predeceased by her son Fr. Robert J. Luchi, S.J., her brother Joseph Marsico and her sister Agnes Manzie.

Regina had the intelligence, strength of character and education for a successful career in business but consciously chose instead a life devoted to God, her family and the Catholic Church. Her life was characterized by an irrepressible love that she poured out without reserve on family, friends and acquaintances. Her impact was such that her joy, love and her freely expressed concern for all left a lasting memory. She lived without ostentation so as to extend her charitable giving.

Expressions of gratitude for her life and condolences on her death have come from several parts of the United States, Canada, France, Africa, Italy and Puerto Rico.  Diagnosed with a dementing illness in later life she lived each day by ”walking the path God outlined for me with my one hand in the Blessed Mother’s hand and the other in the hand of St. Rita“, her favorite saint from childhood.

Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 AM followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Friday, October 4, 2019 at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 7023 West 71st Street, Overland Park, KS 66204.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Catholic Community Hospice, 9720 West 87th Street, Overland Park, KS 66212, http://catholiccharitiesks.org/donate/ or The National Shrine of St. Rita of Cascia, 1166 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA. 19146. http://saintritashrine.org/donate

Carole and I were saddened to hear of Jean’s death. We have nothing but fond memories of her kindness and courtesy shown us when she was the “First Lady” of the Huffington Center on Aging at Baylor College of Medicine. We always enjoyed being in her home and at other social functions. Her smile was infectious; she lived her life of faith and love of family in a quiet but open way that was admired by all who knew her. God rest her gentle soul and bless her family.

We are so sad to hear of the passing of our wonderful friend. To all the Luchis, we send our deepest sympathies. We have such fond memories of her irrepressible nature, her kindness, and her great faith. She was an amazing mom, wife, and caregiver—a shining example of all three. You all are in our prayers as is she—all the while, we are convinced she is now enjoying her eternal reward with Bob, her son. With great love and condolences, Laura and Walt Hudson

Bob, Michael, Jeanie and Lauren. . . . I mourn the loss of Jean from the bottom of my heart. She has been "my friend of the heart" for many, many years and I treasure them all. The Luchi family looms large in our memories, and I treasure them all. That was indeed a blessed "cup of sugar!"

A wonderful heart has stopped beating, but i am in peace to know that it ascended to heaven. I have nothing but great wisdom and good advice for life from Jean. The fond moments at the dinner table, taking pictures, fixing her hair, and just watching tv together brings tears to my eyes. I am honored to have been part of Luchi’s family. May God grant you strength for the loss, my deepest condolences.

Bob, I wanted to personally convey my deepest sympathy to you, Michael, Jeanie and Lauren as well as my sadness over hearing that your life partner of many years passed. I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend time with Jean and you over the years as well as during your last trip to Houston. She has touched the minds, hearts and souls of many. And now, she is looking down on each of you while being with your departed son. May the sun be bright and the breeze gentle as each of you pause to reflect and share treasured memories to help quell the heartache. Carl
