Regina "Jean" Henrietta Luchi (née Marsico), was born on August 19, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA, to Agnes and Gaten Marsico. She was educated at St. Rita’s Catholic Elementary School, The John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School and the University of Pennsylvania. She was married to Robert J. Luchi, M.D. for 65 years. She is survived by her children Jean Marie Luchi, Michael John Luchi (Janet Forge), Lauren Luchi Trujillo (Maximiliano), and Fr. Jean Baptiste Ganza, S.J, her adopted son from Rwanda. She was predeceased by her son Fr. Robert J. Luchi, S.J., her brother Joseph Marsico and her sister Agnes Manzie.
Regina had the intelligence, strength of character and education for a successful career in business but consciously chose instead a life devoted to God, her family and the Catholic Church. Her life was characterized by an irrepressible love that she poured out without reserve on family, friends and acquaintances. Her impact was such that her joy, love and her freely expressed concern for all left a lasting memory. She lived without ostentation so as to extend her charitable giving.
Expressions of gratitude for her life and condolences on her death have come from several parts of the United States, Canada, France, Africa, Italy and Puerto Rico. Diagnosed with a dementing illness in later life she lived each day by ”walking the path God outlined for me with my one hand in the Blessed Mother’s hand and the other in the hand of St. Rita“, her favorite saint from childhood.
Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 AM followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Friday, October 4, 2019 at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 7023 West 71st Street, Overland Park, KS 66204.
