Earl Hoehn was one of the very finest men I ever had the pleasure of meeting and knowing. Our relationship began professionally. I was just starting my new career in real estate brokerage; Earl lived on the corner of a prime location on a major interchange on I-435. It took several visits, but Earl finally agreed to list for sale. The mark of this man is that he really did not at all want to sell. He only agreed to sell because he knew other members of his family could use the money from the proceeds. That was some 30 years ago. I remember with wonderful memories sitting at the kitchen table with this man so many, many times talking about anything--farming, real estate, family, church, politics, investing, ANYTHING. There are some people you know, trust, and respect so much that you can air out whatever is on your mind, and look for good answers. He was one of the wisest men on this earth. I find that individuals who come from a farming background are some of the smartest we have. Their sense of responsibility, integrity, hard work, humility, raw intelligence, energy, and perspective are invaluable. They are badly needed in this world today. I was drawn to Earl for this very reason. After an hour or two, I always left with a firm handshake and a smile. I think it was cathartic for both of us. It definitely was for me. Yes, thanks to Earl's trust and confidence, even thru brokerage company changes, over the years, we did sell all but the home site. My total effort was to get the very best value possible for this man and his family. Only history can judge that. I must say that working with Earl, his sisters Mary and Rose, and his brother Paul was always a pleasure. The family had so much respect for their big brother. That made joint decision-making go so much more easily. In the same vein, Mark Haskin's legal assistance was invaluable. Always responsive, always sound in his advice, his role in the numerous transactions was needed and superbly carried out. So many buyers wanted the land surrounding the home site (on either side of I-435), but especially, the home itself. That made the task a bit more challenging. Earl was determined to live out his life on the farm he tendered, grew up on, and loved. When all but the final, family-owned frontage tract, and Earl's home site, were left, the Oddos agreed to acquire the frontage without the home site. I am grateful for the respectful way Frank and Rick Oddo allowed Earl to remain, to work with the farm animals as long as possible, and to make sure he was pleased with their work. I have to mention the exceptionally wonderful relationship Earl had with his nephew Mark. It was so remarkable in its consistency, solid deep-down mutual affection, and durability. It was a salvation to both Earl and Mark. The bottom line to this likely overlong commentary is that my relationship with Earl Hoehn has been one of the most cherished of my life. I value that man, and his wisdom, so much. Those uniquely wonderful times of ours together truly live on. I would like to call that love. Thank you, Earl. Pat

Mr. Hoehn's obituary was drawn to me not because I knew him or his family but because he had lived to be 101. I always say that there are so many more good people out there than bad and Mr. Hoehn would have been one that I would have definitely been honored to meet. I was especially drawn to his favorite saying, "If you don't have anything good to say about someone, just don't say anything at all." I wish I could say that I have always done that. What a difference we could make in this world. So, I am going to remind myself each time I am tempted to voice my opinion in a negative way about someone, to stop and think about what I say. I am thankful that Mr. Hoehn had already touched so many lives and he will continue to do that from his heavenly home. Thank God for putting people like him in our lives. Christine
