Donald (Don) Ray Houchen, 91, of Lenexa, KS, died peacefully early Wednesday morning, August 14, 2019 at Lakeview Village, Lenexa, KS.
Don was born in Stover, MO, on April 20, 1928. He was the son of the late Vard O. Houchen and Dora A. Boettcher. He was first married to Doris N. Gill who proceeded him in death. His second wife, E. Helen Smith Hansen Houchen resides at Lakeview Village in Lenexa, Kansas. Don worked for the United States Government at Whitman Air force Base in Knob Noster, MO for 30 plus years as an Auto Body Repair Foreman. He mentored and trained many young airmen on the art of making a wrecked vehicle look brand new. His skill and ability were extraordinary. The joys of his life were car restoration, travel, camping and his family.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Houchen, two sons: Jeff Houchen of Independence, MO, Gil Houchen and wife, Melody of Overland Park KS, one step-daughter: Sandy Klein of Cedar Rapids, IA.: 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren and 8 step great grand children.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris N. (Gill) Houchen
A memorial service will be held Friday, August 16, 2019 @10:00 AM at Porter Funeral Home. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM with Quentin Jones officiating. A gravside service and burial will be held @ 12:30 PM at La Monte Cemetary, La Monte, MO.
