Oct 15, 1933---Jul 04, 2019

Nina Jo Wallace, 85, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019 at her home.

Nina was born October 15, 1933 in Ashford, Alabama the daughter of Inez (Roney) and John W. Thompson.  She grew up in Ashford, then later in South Miami, Florida.  An Army wife for over twenty years, she focused on family and taking care of the home.  She was a great cook, and loved to try local dishes as she moved around the U.S. and overseas.  She was a loving, kind person, funny and fun to be around and was known for her quick wit.  She enjoyed people and made friends easily.  She had a knack for making each person she dealt with feel important to her.  She loved a party, but hated to be the center of attention.

Nina raised four children, Laura Grossman, Diana Free, Donna Long and Steven Wallace, Jr.  She also leaves behind a sister, Judy Lewis; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Riles Thompson.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held July 20, 2019 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home, Lenexa, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to KU Endowment-Alzheimer's Disease Center. (mailing address) KU Endowment c/o Lindsey Hummer, 3901 Rainbow Blvd, Kansas City, Kansas 66160.

Steve, Laura, Diana, Donna, Steven, Judy Carol, and grandkids, Please know my heart is broken for all of you. She is a hard loss. What an amazing human being she was and is in spirit. I have nothing by kind, funny and loving memories of my Aunt. She left a life lasting impression on me. When I think of her, which will be often, I will with a smile on my face and love in my heart. I will pray that God wraps all of you in his arms and protects you from this grief. God bless you all!
