Aug 31, 1927---May 01, 2019

Ermalene went to be with her Lord with family at her side on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the age of 91 in Overland Park Kansas. She is finally at peace after a long battle with Alzheimers.  Visitation at 5 p.m. with Memorial Service at 7 p.m. Wed. May 8, at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia Lenexa, KS.  Please wear pink, red or bright colors to celebrate her life.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Great Plains SPCA, 5424 Antioch Drive, Merriam, KS 66204.

She always told friends to call her “Erm”. Erm was born near Lyndon, Vermont at the family farm on August 31, 1927, to Fred and Edith Hutchinson. She was an only child but grew up surrounded by a large, loving extended family. We know they are all enjoying a great reunion along with her many later friends and family who preceded her in heaven.

Erm never met a stranger and had no enemies. She loved unconditionally and never judged. She always gave good counsel to her family and closest friends and stood by them no matter the circumstance. She had the BEST laugh and we all spent many moments with her laughing until we couldn’t catch our breath and had tears rolling down our faces. That laughter continued in spite of her suffering right up until a month before she passed away.
Erm loved skiing! She told stories of her competitions and the friends on the slope. Friends often stated that if she had continued with her downhill racing skills, she could have been in the Olympics. We still have her boots and ski poles which will be at the celebration of her life.

Erm was married on September 28, 1957 to Ed McCormick. They were married 57 years at the time of his death in 2014. When Erm married Dad, she became an instant Mother to 4 children, Kathleen, Joan, Dennis and Daniel. The children rejoiced when, in 1959, she gave birth to Jeffrey. She loved all her children and made sure our every need was met for all of our lives. She also loved her dogs, especially Big Mac, the basset hound who stayed by her side until she was no longer able to live in the family home in Overland Park.

Most importantly, she prayed daily for each family member by name every day. We spent many hours over the last 5 years praying for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She wanted everyone to be at peace and remember to love and forgive as God loves and forgives us.
She is survived by her children; Jeff, Kathy, Joan, Dennis and Daniel and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Erm is also survived by her dearest friends, Susan and Byron Dean and their children and pets. Susan was a forever friend to Erm for 35 years and and invaluable help and comfort to her in the last 5 years right up to her passing.

Erm’s wish was to be cremated and for her remains to be interred with her mother and father in the Lyndon Center Cemetery in Lyndon, Vermont at a later date.
