Jean Smith Kurtz, 86, of Claycomo, MO passed away March 14, 2019 at her home. The visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 20 at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS. The Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 21 at the Funeral Home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Jean was born January 3, 1933 in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of John and Esther (Shaw) Edwards and was a 1951 graduate of Wyandotte High School. Jean had worked as the secretary for Rev. Bill London at John Calvin United Presbyterian Church and then was a Bank Officer at Industrial State Bank, working at the 10th & Central and 32nd & Strong banks. She was an active member of square dancing and gardening clubs. She had been a member of the former John Calvin United Presbyterian Church and had attended Tower View Baptist Church. Jean was married for 34 years to Ronal Eugene Smith and he preceded her in death in 1987. Jean was then married to Howard Kurtz for 14 years with Howard preceding her in death in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Irene Edwards and Shirley Dodd and an infant granddaughter Kelsey Smith. Jean is survived by 2 sons and their wives, Dennis and Connie Smith, Eloy AZ, Scott and Vickie Smith, Overland Park, KS, grandchildren, Emily Nightingale and Shawn Smith and their mother, Vicki, grandchildren, Jackson Smith and Ryan Smith Lindsey Radcliff and her husband Andrew, Kelsey Fenton and 2 great grandchildren, Norah and Caleb Radcliff.
