May 15, 1957---Feb 02, 2019

Mark Evan Thompson, age 61, of Lenexa, Kansas passed away February 2, 2019 at his home.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019 from 1-2:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service following at 2:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Lenexa, Kansas.  Rev. Matthew Clough will officiate.

Mark Evan Thompson who lived in Lenexa with wife Donna, have been married together for the past 13 years.

Mark had a number of significant qualities to be admired in his life.

He was dedicated to his employer over the years at the many places of employment for example at Century Link, Stouse Sign and decal as well as many other establishments where he used his talents in graphic design, design decal, printing and advertising.

Mark Graduated in 1977 with an Associate of Arts. Mark rarely missed work, unless it was absolutely necessary, as he was a trusted employee and spoke fondly of his many co-workers and upline supervisors and managers.

Away from work, Mark enjoyed and spent many hours with his cars. He was interested in everything about them as a collector, a mechanic, and as a show enthusiast. He and Donna would take any selection to drive in any weather. It seemed that a cruise in a car was the best medicine to get away and enjoy life.

Mark was a joy to speak with- cordial, polite, and was proud to talk about his family and friends, nieces and nephews, in-laws and extended family, co-workers… everyone…always in a positive light. He was filled with humor when the time was appropriate and very serious at times when he needed to be. Mark was conscious about encouraging others, and especially liked mentoring younger men about his experiences.

In the past 3 years Mark experienced the loss of his two parents, only 10 months apart. We know he missed them deeply since their passing. Its our prayer that he has joined them in eternal rest with our Lord Jesus Christ.

We are blessed to have known him and are comforted by him.

Mark, we love you, and we miss you until we see you again.

I only met Mark once, on December 20th. He was on vacation but came in very early that day to help us set up the auditorium for a large event. He was a godsend to our event and his care and kind attention to detail was much appreciated. When he came back that evening to help secure the CenturyLink auditorium, we chatted on a personal level and he did express his sadness at his parents loss. I was so very grateful that he took the extra time to come in on his day off to help us. I did pray for him because he seemed very sad about Christmas without his parents. I'm hopeful he is at peace. He was one of those people you can meet once and they have a impact on you because of their actions and personality. My thoughts are with his wife and family.

So sorry to hear of Marks' passing. Prayers to the family. I met Mark at CenturyLink when sending a package out to an auto parts supplier. I got to chatting with him that day and found out he was a fellow auto enthusiast like I. Since that time, we'd share stories about our projects and dreams when we'd run into each other. I will miss those fun discussions w/ him... RIP

Mark was such a joy. I loved having conversations with him. He rescued me (well my shoe) once from the parking lot when my shoe fell into the drainage. He took the time out of his day to help retrieve it and we continued to laugh about that day years later. He always had a smile and a hello when we would cross paths at the office. I am saddened by his loss and with prayers for his wife, Donna.

Donna and family, I'm so sorry for your sudden loss of Mark, I was shocked when I received the word. Mark was more than just a co-worker but truly a great friend over many years here in Gardner. He and I would speak often about family, friends, high school and KU, but most of all his love for cars. I will think of him often as I'm out driving my antique cars. Thoughts and Prayers for you all. Loren

I was shocked and saddened by the news of Mark passing. He was truly a joy to work with. Mark was one of those people that left an impact on you as he went the extra mile to make sure everything was taken care of properly. I ALWAYS made a point of taking my packages down to the mailroom just to check on him to see how he was doing. Whenever we had anything in the office, I always included him and his staff even though he would object. I am so sorry for your loss as Mark will be sorely missed. I will keep you and your family in our prayers.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family on Mark's passing. He was a 1975 graduate of Shawnee Mission South and we're a very close group. We just found out Mark had passed or we would have been at his service. Mark was loved by all of us and entertained us on Facebook. He always commented on pictures of our kids or grandkids with such nice words. He will be missed in so many ways. R.I.P dear friend, Forever Raiders

Mark was one of the first people I met at Shawnee Mission South when we were both photographers (and fellow gear heads) on the yearbook staff. We spent a lot of time together and often joked about becoming the "old car guys" some day that never actually drove them, we just washed them and looked at them. I am saddened to hear of his passing, he was a good friend and will be sorely missed. R.I.P. my brother. ~ Will Hammond

I found out yesterday of Mark’s passing. Donna, I am so very sorry. Mark and I met at age five. We got together with Mark and Donna for lunch when we came to town a few years back. It was so nice to meet Donna. I took pictures as they drove in, in one of his many cars! It was so exciting to get together. Mark and I we’re alike in the fact that we despised change! We lived in in the past. Always joking about it. The sad part is, we would “talk” almost everyday. “we need to get together” It didn’t seem like it, but it was 6 years of talking about it. How sad Tom and I will miss him very much

My heart aches for you Donna. I was not aware that Mark had passed. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I am saddened that the miles kept us apart, the long winter we have had, and my husbands declining health. Please know you are in my heart.
