Joan Elizabeth Obermayer (Longfield)
Joan Elizabeth Obermayer, 78, of Olathe, Kansas, was called home to be with our lord on January 13th after a short battle with cancer.
Joan was born in Chicago and raised in Glenview, Illinois by her loving parents, Bill and Betty Longfield. Joan was the second of three children. She graduated in 1957 from Maine Township High School in Des Plaines, Illinois, where she met the love of her life and future husband, William Obermayer. They were married in 1960 after she attended Northern Illinois University.
Joan was a secretary prior to training at TWA Hostess School in Kansas City. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved to attend her grandchildren’s many events. She enjoyed playing tennis in her younger years, and became an avid golfer. She made amazingly beautiful quilts. She was a devoted KU, Royals and Chief’s fan. She was involved in an organization called 100 Women Who Care, as well as other charity work through her New Connections prayer group.
She is survived by her husband of over 58 years, Bill, and her 3 daughters, Sue Ise (Frank), Cheryl Baker (Joe), and Betsy Bartlett (George), all of Overland Park, Kansas. She is also survived by her brother William Longfield (Nancy) of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, and her sister Nancy O’neal (Edward) of San Diego, CA, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation at Porter Funeral home in Lenexa, KS (8535 Monrovia) is scheduled on Monday, January 28 from 3-4:30 pm and a memorial service to follow officiated by Father Michael Hermes of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Olathe, KS.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Olathe in Joan’s name.
