Mar-retta, as her mother called her, was born to Leonard and Margaret Weddle on September 18, 1939 in Grandview, Missouri. Mary grew up in Wheatland, Missouri and graduated from the University of Missouri School of Home Economics. After graduating from MU, she taught Home Economics at Baptiste Junior High in the Hickman Mills School district. A fellow teacher set her up on a blind date with Robert O. Schnitker (Bob) and they were married on June 18, 1966. During their life together, they lived in Independence, MO; Arlington, TX; Nevada, MO; Wichita, KS; and Olathe, KS. Mary’s joy in life was creating a home for her family; and planning celebrations and dinners for family and friends – she loved to entertain! Mary was an active member of church everywhere they lived, most recently belonging to Lenexa Baptist Church, Lenexa, KS.
She was a beloved wife, adored mother, loved sister and aunt, and treasured friend to many. Mary is survived by her husband Bob, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, DeAnn and Steve Berndsen; brother and wife, Doug and Julia Weddle; niece Brenda Helbing and her family. Mary was proceeded in death by her parents; sister Carol Ann Weddle; and nephew, Jason Weddle.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to The Arthritis Foundation as Mary suffered from arthritis all of her adult life, and Kansas City Hospice, as they provided much comfort during her last weeks.
