Barbara Ann Peterson, age 85, of Olathe, KS passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving morning, November 22, 2018.
Barbara was born on June 28, 1933 in Joplin, MO to Lloyd and Naydene Smith. She grew up in Kansas City, KS and attended Argentine High School and the Kansas City Conservatory of Music for piano. In 1959, she married Ernest Peterson of Shawnee, KS. They recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on November 7th. Barbara and Ernie made their home in Lansing, KS where they raised their two sons and two daughters. They also owned and operated Lansing Lumber, Inc. which they started in 1966. Barbara was a longtime member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she was actively involved.
She enjoyed music, gardening, and swimming, but what she most enjoyed was spending time with her grandchildren and family gatherings. Barbara and Ernie have resided at Santa Marta retirement community since 2014.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Jon Peterson. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Patrick Peterson (Leslie) of Kansas City, KS; her daughter Anna Friend (Donald) of Fairway, KS; her daughter Amy Stork (Ed) of Shawnee, KS; her brother Stan Smith (Janet) of Shawnee, KS and her eight grandchildren Chrissy, Greg, Matt, Ryan, Julia, Natalie, Nick and Brady.
The funeral will be held on Monday December 3 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lansing, KS. The visitation will start at 10 a.m. with the Rosary being prayed at 10:45 a.m. and the Mass beginning at 11 A.M. Burial will follow Mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lansing, KS. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Vincent’s Clinic in Leavenworth, KS or to St. Francis de Sales Church, Lansing, KS.
