On October 31st, 2018, after a long fight with kidney disease and renal failure, Julie went home to be with Jesus.
On October 29th, 1946, Julia Francis Shepard was born of Mildred Lydon Gnibus and Rex Shepard in Erie, Pennsylvania. She lived in St. Joseph's Home for Children during much of her childhood, and is a member of the St. Joseph's Home Alumni. She attended Academy High School in Erie, Pa. Julie moved to Kansas and married Harold Brown on December 31st, 1978. She worked for Warheim and LaBunker for Bob Warheim in Topeka, was a secretary at St. Paul's Catholic School in Olathe, worked for A.J. Lang Property Management, and then Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Divine Mercy Parish in Gardner as parish secretary. Julie was and still is a warrior for life. She organized the bus trip for the March for Life for 30 plus years for the state of Kansas, often taking several other states as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Agnes Mae Henderson, her sister Mary Lou Nestor, and her nephews Michael Shepard and Michael Nestor.
She is survived and forever loved and remembered by her husband of almost 40 years, Hal Brown, her children, Rae Ann Holloman, Christopher Henderson, Amanda Hyskell, and Maryteresa Kissell and her husband Joseph Kissell, which whom she resided. She will also forever love her grand children, Grace Kissell, Joshua Kissell, William Kissell, Michael Holloman, Martin Holloman, Chrystausha Holloman, Symmihn Holloman, Aidan Hyskell, Ava Hyskell, Caralea Henderson, and Brychan Henderson and her 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters , Sallie Morgan and husband Thomas Morgan of Erie, PA. and children,Rita Green and husband of Florida, sister in law Lisa Gnibus and daughters of Erie, PA. She also has many, many other extended family in Erie, PA and family in Lubbock, TX, and many family members she has adopted over the years.
The following services will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 5501 Monticello Rd. Shawnee, Ks:
Visitation Sunday, November 4th from 5:00pm-7:00pm, Rosary at 7pm
Funeral Mass on Monday, November 5th at 10:30am, followed directly by funeral luncheon
Burial will be Tuesday, November 6th at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 10:00 am
A memorial Mass will also be said in Erie, Pennsylvania by Father McCormick, date and time to be determined at St. James Catholic Church.
