Maryan Hake Jones passed away on September 19, 2018.  Visitation will be Friday, October 5, 2018 at 10:00 AM with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 820 Birch St, Eudora, KS 66025.  Burial at National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.  

Maryan was born October 7, 1928 in Montrose, Missouri to Clara Francis Kaumans Hake and Herman Henry Hake.  She is preceded in death by Bill Jones, her husband of 64 years, her first son, Joseph Jones, and four brothers Harold Hake, David Hake, Arthur Hake, and Jerome Hake. She is survived by her daughter Anne Claire Jones Rhoades (Dr. Charles Rhoades), son Christopher William Jones (Michelle Jones), grandchildren Dr. Carolyn Rhoades Powers (Dr. Ben Powers ), Charles Rhoades II, (Julie Rhoades) Christopher Rhoades, Daniel Rhoades (Emily Rhoades); Mason Jones, Hunter Jones, and great grandchildren William Powers, George Powers, Theodore Powers, Charles Rhoades III, Claire Rhoades, and Daniel Rhoades II.  In her early years she was valedictorian of her class, and a member of the National Honor Society.  She gave a piano recital her senior year and had the lead in the school operetta. She obtained a B.A. Degree in English from Avila University in Kansas City.  She was editor of the literary magazine her senior year and voted Miss Wmdmoor.  She did graduate work in education at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. She taught kindergarten, first grade and sixth grade in Kansas City and Memphis, Tennessee.  She was a member of Kansas City Young Matrons and did Children’s Community Theatre. She also served as a docent for several years at the Nelson Aitkens Museum of Art in Kansas City. She was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church. Her hobbies were playing the piano, singing, water color painting, gardening, and world travel.  She loved playing golf at Champions Golf Club, where she was a member.  Maryan experienced both joyous events and tragedies during her life and always managed to survive with dignity and class.  She used education and training to improve both students and those around her.  Her endless desire to enhance her art work is reflected in her numerous water color paintings.

I want to extend my condolences to your family for the loss of your mother and a fine, great lady. She was such a good friend and cousin to have as we were growing up around Montrose. She will be remembered!
