David “Tommy” Martin of Olathe, KS, was born on May 31, 2002. He went to be with the Lord on August 10, 2018, because of an auto accident on a church trip. Tommy is survived by his parents, Mike and Rachelle Martin and his brothers and sisters; Mikey, Ethan, Anita, Lily, Charlie, Molly and Henry Martin.  He is also survived by his Grandparents Mike and Nina Thomas and Lon Martin and his Great Grandparents Maria LaGue, Waneda Phairas, and Jane and Bob Dierkes.  He is survived by Aunts and Uncles and all of his cousins and a vast extended family.  First and foremost Tommy Martin loved the Lord.  He loved his family and friends and church.  He loved everything about music, and he loved to read and learn.  He was gentle and kind and the most amazing young man, son and brother.  The celebration of his life will be held Wednesday August 15,2018 at Antioch Church 5201 Antioch Rd., Overland Park KS 66202.  The visitation begins at noon and the service begins at 1:30 with a burial following at Resurrection Cemetery located at 83^rd and Quivira Rd, Lenexa KS.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Tommy Martin and Family gofundme page at https://www.gofundme.com/5ybhmbk

Tommy Martin was a born leader.  He was the first born of a family of eight.  He led us into parenthood.  He was the first of 15 grandchildren on the Thomas side and the 4^th of 17 grandchildren and great grandchildren on the Martin side.  He was so smart.  School just came naturally to him.  Tommy loved to read.  He would get lost in his books.  He was going to be a junior in high school this year and was already enrolled in his 3^rd and 4^th classes at JCCC.  He was so motivated to go as far as he could to do as much as he could for the Lord.  Tommy loved giving gifts.  He was so intentional in his gift giving.  He would hear me say something and then at Christmas or my birthday, there it was.  He just returned from a mission’s trip in Guatemala.  He took the time to pick out specific gifts for each of his siblings and for us, his parents.  He was just so thoughtful. Tommy loved to eat.  He loved to make fancy sandwiches and was the first of the kids to want to cook with me.  He wanted to try new recipes and bake different kinds of bread.  He would bake and decorate cakes for special occasions.  For his birthday he wanted to eat Lobster.  I can only imagine the chef he would have become.

From the beginning Tommy has always had music in his blood.  He loved to sing, to drum, and then found his true gift of playing the piano.  Tommy took lessons for a short time, but then discovered that he could play by ear.  One day, he said “Hold on mom, let me hear that again.”  He then went to the other room and figured it out on the piano.  He was amazing.  His slender beautiful fingers had a way of making the piano come to life.  He brought music into our home.  He was constantly having me listen to a new song or a new artist and he loved creating his own music. It wasn’t just about the music for him.  It was about his Jesus. He wanted to use the gifts God gave him to tell others about Jesus.  Tommy truly lived his life to glorify the Lord.  He was constantly reading his Bible and studying it, he attended church every time the doors were open, he attended the worship team night every Tuesday and was involved in the youth internship. He desperately wanted everything that God had for him.  Tommy was so brave, when he decided he wanted to do something, he did it. Tommy loved people, and was friends with everyone he met.  He knew no age limits or boundaries when it came to friendships.   He loved people so well, and he always saw the best in them. He truly was a friend to all. He was patient and gentle with his younger siblings.  As the oldest of eight he had plenty of opportunities to love on babies.  He always wanted to see their little toes and fingers.  He had plenty of orneriness in him too.  He liked to show his brothers who was boss.  He made us laugh, and he made us smile.  He made mistakes, but he was so quick to learn from them and be better the next time.  He would read the Bible and say, “Mom, this is really good, you need to read this.”  “Hey Mom, have you read this verse?  Try this version of the Bible, it makes it come alive.”  He was so much better than we can ever hope to be.  As we were looking through his phone we found Tommy’s own words best describing who he really is.  “I am on this earth to lead people into God’s presence through worship and showing His presence to other through my union with God.  Ephesians 5:8tpt is my life verse.”  Once your life was full of sin’s darkness, but now you have the very light of our Lord shining through you because of your union with Him.  Your mission is to live as children flooded with His revelation-light!

Tommy will be greatly missed, but we know he is doing what he was created to do…worshipping the Lord!
